Dongyi Technology Demonstrates Humanoid Robot Badminton 40-Shot Rally with Layered Skill Architecture
In an IROS 2026 interview, Liu Chenhao of Dongyi Technology described a humanoid robot that sustained a continuous 40-shot badminton rally. The system uses a layered skill architecture with a skill selector that observes the ball and opponent state. In simulation, the team modeled aerodynamic effects such as air resistance before transferring policies to the real robot; on the physical robot, an external perception camera performs on-device real-time inference. The company says the demonstration achieved continuous back-and-forth play of 40 shots.
