ByteDance Seed reports that DeepSeek-V4-series models can change answers when irrelevant tokens are prepended, with performance oscillating with compression stride in a 4-token period. In 128K-context "needle-in-a-haystack" retrieval, accuracy differences across positions reached 40.2 percentage points for DeepSeek-V4-Flash-Base and 34.8 points for DeepSeek-V4-Pro-Base.

The team attributes this "phase sensitivity" to chunked KV cache compression and observes internal "phase-specialized" attention heads. Control Qwen3-0.6B models trained from scratch showed periodic swings that shifted with compression strides of 4/6/8, while full-attention baselines did not. ByteDance Seed recommends testing such models across different compression phases.

TraeCode and TraeWork now ship as one merged platform under ByteDance's TRAE brand. The new TRAE offers a workbench-style Agent mode where multiple agents handle coding, testing, fixing and delivery in parallel, plus a one-click switch to IDE mode with Solo and IDE options. It spans requirements breakdown, documentation and design, coding and testing, and delivery reporting; outputs are collected in 'My Artifacts.' Template libraries, scheduled automation, Feishu and WeChat binding, and syncing across desktop, web and mobile are included.

Ocean Engine launched Juliang AI Workbench (巨量AI工作台) and Jichuang 2.0 (即创2.0) at its consumer goods AI conference on September 17, 2026. The workbench coordinates five AI agents for opportunity discovery, creative production, livestream operations, ad placement, and data analysis, with shared business context. Jichuang 2.0 is positioned as an AI-generated creative production and delivery platform.

Early co-building customers used the opportunity-insight agent and, the company says, cut report production from seven days of manual work to 20 minutes.

Three months after ByteDance spun off its AI drug discovery unit as Anew Labs, the company has closed a $290M first independent financing round (RMB 2.03B). Investors include Sequoia Capital China, IDG Capital, GL Ventures (Hillhouse), 5Y Capital, and Gaorong Capital, along with several unnamed domestic pharmaceutical groups as strategic backers. What the proceeds will fund was not disclosed.
