Since Manus went viral in early 2025, agents have been the product category Chinese AI companies most want to own. Ant Group, Baidu and Tencent are shipping consumer agents through apps that already have hundreds of millions of users; startups are building agent-native models, recruitment and office agents, and the gateways and authentication layers that let companies run coding agents safely. Chinese developers are also unusually prominent on GitHub Trending with open-source agent tools.
